About

The Inland Empire has emerged as an important economic and suburban powerhouse for the southern California region. But the tremendous population and economic growth continue to cause negative externalities to the region, including increased housing costs, inequality, and pollution.

The Inland Center for Sustainable Development (ICSD) was originally established as the Center for Sustainable Suburban Development (CSSD) in 2003 as part of UCR’s School of Public Policy. Our center focuses on research about suburban growth and its impact on regional public policy challenges. ICSD is an expanding source for locally-based policy research stressing sustainable development in the Inland Empire.
